COP28 vow to triple renewable energy by 2030 supported by 118 nations

Goal comes as world falls behind plans to cut global warming emissions

BRUSSELS -- A pledge to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 garnered support from 118 countries as of Saturday at the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties underway in the United Arab Emirates.

A joint proposal was made by the U.S, Europe, and the UAE aimed to triple renewable energy capacity to at least 11,000 gigawatts by 2030. Japan added its support, and emerging and developing countries in Asia and Africa are being called upon to participate as well.
